(Iceland, b.1974)

1974년 레이캬비크에서 태어난 크리스트자나는 어린 시절의 많은 시간을 아이슬란드의 검은 모래와 얼어 붙은 바다의 넓은 풍경을 바라 보고 자라면서, 수많은 동물과 식물로 가득 찬 새로운 세계를 꿈꿔왔습니다. 이런 감성은 지도와 식물 인그레이빙에 흥미로 발전되었으며  런던의 센트럴 세인트 마틴에서 그래픽 디자인과 일러스트레이션을 전공으로 이끌었으며 이후 크리스트자나 작업의 토대가 되었습니다.

뉴욕 타임즈가 ‘뉴 애니쿼리안 무브먼트(new antiquarian movement)’의 일환이라고 설명한, 그녀의 미술 작품, 인쇄물, 패션 및 가구는 화려한 나뭇잎을 앤티크한 지도 위에 겹쳐 이국적인 동물과 곤충을 빈티지스럽게 묘사함으로써 환상적인 새로운 작품으로 그녀가 말하는 소위 ‘희망찬 숲(Wishful Forest)’을 재 탄생시키고 있습니다. 이 기발한 2차원과 3차원의 광경은 크리스트자나에게 펜타 어워드, D & D 어워드, 클리오 어워드 및 뉴욕 페스티벌 그랑프리 1 위를 포함한 많은 국제적인 상들을 수상하게 해주었습니다. 신화적이고 현대적인 그녀의 미학은 해러즈, 포트넘 앤 메이슨, 샤넬 및 코너트 호텔과 같은 유서 깊은 브랜드들과 폴 스미스, 크리스찬 루부탱 및 샤드 런던과 같은 아이코닉한 현대적 기업들과의 협업으로 이어지고 있습니다. 현재 크리스트자나는 웨스트 런던에서 거주하며 활동하고 있습니다.

Kristjana S. Williams
(Iceland, b.1974)

Born in Reykjavik in 1974, Kristjana spent much of her childhood looking out over Iceland’s spartan landscape of black sand and frozen seas, dreaming of new worlds filled with abundant animal and plant life.
This wanderlust fostered a love of maps and botanical engravings which, after completing her degree in graphic design and illustration at Central St Martins in London, became the foundation of Kristjana’s work.
Described by the New York Times as part of the ‘new antiquarian movement’ her fine art pieces, prints, fashion and furniture see vintage illustrations of exotic animals and insects layered over lavish foliage and antique maps to reimagine fantastical new creatures and what she calls ‘wishful forests’.
These whimsical two and three dimensional tableaus have won Kristjana many international awards including The Pentawards, D&D in book, Clio Award and first prize in the New York Festivals Grand Prix. Her aesthetic which is at once both mythical and modern has led to collaborations with heritage brands such as Harrods, Fortnum and Mason, Chanel and the Connaught Hotel, and iconic contemporary firms such as Paul Smith, Christian Louboutin and The Shard London.
Kristjana lives and works in West London.
