This September, which marks the beginning of autumn, Gallery Planet introduces the works of Mayuka Yamamoto at Banyan Tree Club. Mayuka Yamamoto is a Japanese artist, who is known as a second generation pop artist following Japanese pop artists like Yoshimoto Nara and Takashi Murakami. Her work is gaining popularity by asking questions about the trauma and fears of childhood memory. Animal-shaped clothes is a motif she puts on a figure she draws, and the motif is used to express the fear of growing up.

The existence of animals surrounding a child in a dreamy background is reflecting the child’s insecurity and desire to be protected. Yamamoto illustrated the child’s eyes in detail to deliver her way of consolation to ones who feel unstable. The child is a self-portrait of the author herself, and this recalls our memories that are often forgotten.
