갤러리 플래닛은 2018 반얀트리 클럽& 스파 서울 클럽동에서 한 해를 마무리하는 전시로 사진가 민병헌의 작품 세계를 소개합니다. 아날로그 방식(Gelatin Silver Print)의 흑백 스트레이트 사진(Straight Photograph)만을 일관되게 작업하는 민병헌은 독특한 촉각성을 자아내는 회색조의 화면에 서정적이고 감각적인 분위기로 차별화된 그만의 사진을 선보여왔습니다.
민병헌은 1984년 첫 개인전‘별거 아닌 풍경’이후 국내뿐만 아니라 프랑스, 영국, 미국 등지에서도 활발한 활동을 하고있습니다. 철저한 완벽주의로, 정통 아날로그 흑백 사진 인화 방식인 젤라틴 실버 프린트를 고수하여, 독특하고 섬세한 감각의 세계를 보여줍니다. 젤라틴 실버프린트(Gelatin Silver Print)는 휘발성 있는 디지털 프린트 사진과는 차별되는 은염을 이용한 전통적 사진 인화 방식으로, 연회색의 농담을 최대한 활용하거나, 반대로 진한 회색 혹은 갈색 톤의 섬세한 색조의 변화를 표현하기 적합한 작가만의 일관된 인화 방식입니다.
절제되고 균형 감각을 잃지 않는 조형성을 고수하는 민병헌은 현란한 컬러, 속도가 강조되는 디지털 시대를 쫓아가는 가운데, 느림의 미학을 실천하듯 묵묵히 자신의 길을 걷고 있습니다.
주요 시리즈로는 잡초(Weed), 안개(Deep Fog), 나무(Tree), 설경(Snowland), 폭포(Waterfall) 등이 있으며, 국립현대미술관, 프랑스 국립조형예술관, 로스앤젤레스 주립미술관, 샌프란시스코 현대 미술관 등 국내외 주요 미술관에서 작품이 소장되어 있습니다.
As the last exhibition that wraps up the year 2018, Gallery Planet introduces the works of photographer Byung-hun Min at Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul. Byung-hun Min consistently produces analog (Gelatin Silver Print) black and white photographs that emphasize his talent of capturing the sensual atmosphere of the environment.
After his first solo exhibition in 1984 in Korea, Byung-hun Min has been active in France, England, and the United States as well. His strict perfectionism is projected to his printing method, Gelatin Silver Print. The method he persists is a traditional photo printing method using a silver salt. It is different from volatile digital printed photos, and this difference is part of a uniqueness Min wants to lay stress on.
His main series of works include <weed>,<deep>,<fog>,<snowland> and <waterfall>. His works are included in the collections of major domestic and international art museums.
