갤러리 플래닛에서는 사실적이고 생생한 묘사를 통해 세상의 모습을 담아내는 작가 이경미의 개인전을 오는 9월 20일부터 10월21일까지 개최한다. 이번 전시에는 그 동안 작가의 회화 작업의 근간이 되는 설치와 오브제 등이 함께 전시되어 관람객에게 다양한 볼거리를 선사하게 될 것이다. 이경미의 작업에는 개인사와 인류의 보편적인 역사, 유년시절의 추억, 문명에 대한 비전 등 다양한 스토리가 담겨있다. 이러한 자기 반영적 과정이 오랜 기간 연마해 획득한 사실적 묘사와 섬세한 구성 등을 통해 그리기 기법으로서의 회화의 본질에 충실하게 표현되고 있다.
고양이 작가로 알려져 있는 이경미의 그간 행보는 다양한 매체를 통해 고양이를 주인공을 등장시켜 끝없는 네러티브를 그려왔다. 그러나 그를 고양이를 그리는 작가로 단순평가 할 수 없는 부분은 작가가 지속적으로 보여준 인스톨레이션 개념의 작업들을 통해서이다. 또한 이번 갤러리 플래닛의 전시에서는, 이경미 작가의 신작, 달(the Moon)시리즈를 포함한 10여점 이상의 회화작과 다양한 설치 작업을 통해 미지의 우주를 향한 작가의 동경이 구현되는 완성도 높은 전시를 선보일 예정이다. 눈에 보이는 것을 착실하게 과학, 수사학적 분석을 동원해서 그렸던 과거 원근법 화가들의 전통과 부분적으로는 맥을 같이하면서도 미디어의 개입이 자연스럽게 많아진 동시대상의 감각을 자연스럽게 작업에 취하여 회화의 실험성을 볼 수 있는 전시가 될 것이다.
Gallery Planet is presenting a solo exhibition of Kyoung-mi Lee, who surprisingly visualizes her artistic observation in the very careful and realistic way, from Sep. 20 to Oct. 21. Through this exhibition, the audiences will be able to have a special experience by the artist’s distinction of displaying and composing her various artworks: objects, installations and the artist’s originative wooden panel paintings. Kyoung-Mi Lee represents her own complex self-reflexivity based on personalities, childhood memories, histories of human being and visions of civilization as well. Also, for long time, she has been attempting to develop her realistic, delicate and fine styles of painting to delivers those self-reflexivity by herself, and now her works are satisfied with high technical and narrative manner as the essences of painting.
Kyoung-mi Lee is well known for her symbolic character, cats. Since she widely recognized as the “Cat Artist,” she has been applying an endless narrative image of cats to the different mediums; furthermore, what distinguishes her from remaining known only as a cat artist are the extraordinary installation working that she shows consistently. underlining his ongoing quest for tradition and history in various formats. Specially, in this exhibition, Gallery Planet introduces her latest series the Moon underlining his ongoing quest for the mysterious moon, and the exhibition is materializing the universe that Kyung-mi Lee has been yearning for, by composing over 10 new paintings and installations. The exhibition shows that features of her works sharing the same pulse of the earlier perspective artists who mobilized scientific methods of analysis in order to accurately illustrate the visual world while they are so experimental in method of depiction in that she chooses to naturally incorporate the contemporary sentiments influenced by an influx of media involvement.
