Lee Hyemin uses traditional materials such as cotton, bronze, and polyester-blend fabric to create sculptures in the form of pillows and cushions. However, instead of being encapsulated within simple representationalism or the concept of readymade commonly encountered in modern art, Lee has consistently presented new frontiers of sculpture through her unique three-dimensional forms.

Just like the mechanisms living organisms maintain, the paintings function as free-flowing objects that constantly change their inner composition. Lee’s paintings, thus constructed with an open structure that creates new meanings at every moment, exchange conversations with viewers and allow them to engage in new experiences.

Lee graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in sculpture and received a master’s degree in video art from New York University in 2001. Lee has had more than 20 solo shows, including Static Flow at Gallery Planet (2022), and others at major art institutions, including Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, Gallery Bing, Lee Eugean Gallery, Gallery Royal, and Art More, and participated in numerous group shows and art fairs. Lee’s works are collected by numerous esteemed institutions, including the Korean media company SBS, Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, Com2uS Studios, Amorepacific Museum of Art, Doowon Art Center, and The Chosun Ilbo.
